When Gary Lewis, John R. West, David Walker, David Costell and Allan Ramsay auditioned for a gig at Disneyland in the mid-’60s, they couldn’t possibly have imagined the impact they would go on to have on the music of that decade—and far beyond. But Gary Lewis & The Playboys was an instant hit with audiences in Anaheim, and word of its sound quickly spread. Once it became known that the leader was the son of Jerry Lewis, Gary Lewis & The Playboys was born, and so were a string of hit singles that have audiences buying tickets to this day.

“This Diamond Ring,” the band’s debut single that soared to No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 in 1965, was only the beginning, and while its members alternated throughout the years, the hits continued. Even though the band broke up in 1970, the impact of its ’60s music has only expanded its legion of fans.

When you hear singles like “Count Me In,” “Save Your Heart for Me,” “Everybody Loves a Clown,” “She’s Just My Style,” “Sure Gonna Miss Her” and “Green Grass,” it’s not hard to understand why the group continues to successfully perform live, including this week in downtown Las Vegas.

Whether you were around during its heyday or you just know the band from oldies radio, this is a show you won’t want to miss.
