The feeling of amazement you’ll likely experience as you first glimpse the preserved human figures in REAL BODIES at Horseshoe Las Vegas will likely quickly be replaced by feelings of strong emotion. This exhibit was created to tell stories as well as introduce generations to the various systems that come together to create human life, and odds are you will come out of this attraction feeling much more connected to the universe.
All the bodies on display have been preserved by a process called plastination, allowing the curators to display them in various poses that illustrate activities we enjoy in our everyday lives, but exposing the musculature, skeleton, arteries and more in the process.
For each body, a different story of the human condition is told, with rooms labeled “Rhythm,” “Hunger,” “Move,” “Think,” “Love,” “Breathe” and more. In addition, to get you thinking philosophically, quotes are spread throughout REAL BODIES by famous personalities like Yoko Ono, John Lennon, John F. Kennedy and so many more. In addition, you’ll be introduced to fun facts about the body itself. For example, did you know that the saliva you produce over a lifetime can fill two swimming pools? Or that the volume of air that your lungs inhale daily can fill two hot air balloons?
Along with the bodies themselves, there are so many different smaller exhibits that will make you stop and reflect. When you see the smoker’s lung, it will definitely make you rethink that next cigarette, while a section featuring shrunken heads and a large piece of human skin cannot be ignored. And when you enter the “Death Hall,” lit with candles, it’s a sobering reminder of just how fleeting and delicate our situation is.
Odds are you may be wanting to improve your health after a visit here, and if so, you are in luck! The exhibit’s creators are working on a “Journey to Wellness” program for the month of January, which will feature, among other things, a resolution wall for those who want to change their lives for the better.
As an added bonus, every Saturday in the attraction’s Wellness area, guest speakers will address topics like losing those first five pounds, journaling for stress management, yoga and breathwork. All this will be included with the cost of a ticket!
