Few could have suspected at the time that the trio of Chuck Negron, Cory Wells and Danny Hutton would drop an atomic bomb on the music scene when they released their first album in 1968, but Three Dog Night would go on to release no fewer than 21 Billboard Top 40 hits over the next seven years. It’s a feat that puts the band among the pantheon of top hitmakers of its era, and the strength of its material lives on, both on the radio and in movie soundtracks.

It’s hard to think about The Big Chill without remembering arguably rock’s best first line in history from the band’s “Joy To the World”: “Jeremiah was a bullfrog …” Paul Thomas Anderson’s magnum opus Magnolia sets its tragic, ominous tone thanks to the Aimee Mann cover of the song Three Dog Night made famous, “One.” And with the big twist revealed in ’80s slasher flick April Fool’s Day comes the band’s immortal “Mama Told Me (Not to Come).”

Over the decades, the band has had arguably more lineup changes than any other with almost 30, but original member Hutton remains, and the current lineup sounds as strong as ever delivering absolute classics like “An Old Fashioned Love Song,” “Black and White” and “Shambala” for its devoted legion of fans.
