Oh, that voice! It might be the most distinct in the history of stand-up comedy. And when you combine it with a fearlessness that has only grown stronger in 50-plus years and counting, you get one of entertainment’s most polarizing acts. Even Katt Williams himself often stops in the middle of one of his signature bits, imitating an audience member pleading, “Katt, please don’t get canceled!” But it seems safe to say that if ain’t happened yet, it ain’t happening at all, for Williams has been going there in ways his fans cannot get enough of for years; where most comedians lean away, he leans in so far he could be a dancer in the “Smooth Criminal” video.
Williams goes after everything, from Ozempic usage in Hollywood to gender roles in sports. And no public figure is safe from his crosshairs; past targets have included Cedric the Entertainer, Steve Harvey and many more. But, as Katt would put it, it’s all in the service of giving you information you weren’t privy to before. He’s the human equivalent of The National Enquirer: You’ll laugh at first, but you’ll be seriously thinking twice as to whether it’s true or false afterwards.
This week’s performance on the Strip is not for the faint of heart, but for those with open minds who seek other points of view, it is essential.
