At only 21 years old, Ivan Cornejo is riding a wave of popularity that would make most other artists envious. Every time the American-born performer of regional Mexican music posts a video on YouTube, it garners tens of millions of views. Earlier this year, Rolling Stone referred to him as the “future of music.” And this week, his Mirada Tour comes to the Las Vegas Strip, and you can guarantee that Cornejo will be performing those same YouTube songs live to a screaming audience.

It’s been a meteoric rise, to be sure. The Riverside, Calif.-born Cornejo has only been releasing albums since 2021, but has been incredibly prolific in a short time, releasing three albums, and his second, 2022’s Dañado, is certified five-times platinum. His emotional lyrics are those of love and heartbreak, especially 2021’s “Está Dañado,” now certified eight-times platinum.

The industry certainly notice of Cornejo; at the 2022 Billboard Latin Music Awards, he won for Best New Artist of the Year as well as Best Regional Mexican Album of the Year, an award he would win again in 2023.

He’s truly a songwriter and performer beyond his years, and the future certainly seems as bright as it can possibly be for someone who just this week turned old enough to drink.
