Whether you’re thinking about starting a family or have already done so, Tom Papa’s comedy is definitely for you. The veteran stand-up comedian directly reflects the human condition as regards the American dream: Always being happy, getting along with everyone, being a law-abiding citizen, taking care of your body and, yes, raising children. Is he always perfect at any of these? Absolutely not. But neither is anyone else in America, and that makes Papa’s material immediately relatable—and extremely funny.
In case you’re not already sold on this man’s upcoming shows on the Las Vegas Strip, know this: He’s also a big fan of eating. And he’s an even bigger fan of talking about eating. If you doubt us, check out his weekly podcast, Breaking Bread with Tom Papa, in which he and a guest spend the entire time enjoying a meal while talking about … well, just about anything. Oh, and did we mention that his current tour is called The Grateful Bread Tour?
Podcasting is just the tip of the Papa iceberg. The man of many talents is also an author, writing three books, the titles of which hint at his unique sense of humor (as well as his love of punctuation): Dad Stole My Rake: And Other Family Dilemmas; You’re Doing Great!—And Other Reasons to Stay Alive; and We’re All In This Together … So Make Some Room. As with his live shows, Papa’s goal with these works is to help us all find common ground, even if that common ground is sometimes stupidity.
Odds are you might have seen him on TV and in movies, as he’s also an accomplished actor, with career highlights including movies like The Informant!, Analyze That and Behind the Candelabra and TV shows like The New Adventures of Old Christine and The Marriage Ref (which he hosted).
But ultimately it’s Papa’s stand-up where the man is truly in his element. That earlier mention of raising kids? Well, Papa recently sent his last off to college, and as he proved with his last Netflix special, Home Free, the man shows that his life—and his comedy career—are just beginning.
