This combination of an amusement ride, a movie and a simulated helicopter flight makes for an experience that may leave you breathless. In Las Vegas, you have your choice of four shows: Wonders of the American West; Believe Chicago; Windborne: Call of the Canadian Rockies; and Legendary Iceland: Landscapes and Lore, each with special features.
Each show begins in a room where you get your seat number and watch a short intro video. A recent showing of Legendary Iceland: Landscapes and Lore begins with a scene of a small, seemingly deserted cabin. Snowfall through a hole in the roof imparts calm and readiness for your adventure. Soon, you’ll head to a second chamber where a unique set of scenes play out. With Legendary Iceland, oceans, ice, lava and an elder troll (trolls are part of Icelandic folklore) tell the story of how Iceland emerged. It’s a captivating story that really gets you ready for the next step of the attraction.
After you head into the movie theater/ride portion, you’ll sit, belt in and get basic safety instructions. The screen stretches in a massive arc, and you’ll rise gently into the air before the lights dim. Then be amazed as ice floes and lava fields fill the screen and hikers, bikers, horses, fishermen and farmers trek through your field of vision. Swoop over immense fields of purple lupine and wend your way through canyons and ravines and past cascading waterfalls.
Glide over the ocean, examining rock formations and craggy islands. (Perhaps a troll caught by the dawning day?) The impressive sight of Hallgrímskirkja, the Lutheran church that is the second tallest-building in the capital of Reykjavik, is joined by fireworks. All along the way, you’ll feel the mists kissing your skin.
