When the long beloved Life Is Beautiful festival ceased to exist, it left a hole in many Las Vegans’ hearts. It was a weekend of revelry that filled our lively downtown district with talented musicians, unique vendors and plenty of pop-up entertainment, and since it’s been gone, the last weekend of September isn’t quite the same.

This year, all of that changes. Paradice launches its inaugural fest Sept. 27, and brings a full day of rich soul and R&B music to Vegas. The lineup includes Thee Sacred Souls, known for interrogatively named tunes like “Can I Call You Rose?” and “Will I See You Again?” and R&B singer Ravyn Lenae, whose airy coos convey stories of love and light. Also on the list are all-caps crews LA LOM, JMSN and BALTHVS and local band Johnny Ruiz & The Escapers.

Paradice isn’t just another fest; it celebrates local art and culture. And to support that mission, the festival organizers have created Paradice Pianos, an initiative that refurbishes a piano to working condition, has a local artist paint the instrument and then eventually donates it to the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts. The first was donated by the Winchester Dondero Cultural Center, painted by Las Vegas-based Daniel Esparza and is currently available to play outside the Swan Dive until the festival.
