For a generation, Cyndi Lauper practically defined the zaniness, all-out fun and colorful outfits of the 1980s. Generations of artists from Katy Perry to Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj owe her a great debt, but she’ll show that a particular girl still just wants to have fun of her own when she hits the Strip for a series of what are sure to be unforgettable shows.

Lauper soared to the highest heights in 1983 with the release of She’s So Unusual, a monster album that produced four top-five hits and led to videos that are still revered by fans to this day. (Her video for “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” is recognized as one of the best of the ’80s by numerous outlets.) She also became a worldwide figure in the World Wrestling Federation, becoming the manager of Wendi Richter and casting famous figures in some of her videos.

But that was just the beginning for Lauper, who has since starred in movies and television, appeared on Broadway and composed the music and lyrics for Broadway musical Kinky Boots, which won multiple Tony Awards. And all the while Lauper has been producing albums and building on her already-impressive legacy, which includes support of same-sex marriage and fighting to end youth homelessness. Lauper has made a career out of being so unusual, and that’s a very, very good thing.
