Few Las Vegas residencies in recent memory have engendered the enthusiasm New Kids On the Block’s has. The quintet that helped define the boy band genre in the late-’80s has meshed with Vegas like few acts in the city’s entire history. So astounding was the response to the group’s initial run that more shows were announced almost immediately, and The Right Stuff continues to sell out to Blockheads who scream their devotion during each and every show.

But the songs from Donnie Wahlberg, Danny Wood, Jon Knight, Jordan Knight and Joey McIntyre are only part of the production’s appeal. Yes, all the classics that fans demand are on the setlist, from “Hangin’ Tough” and “Step by Step” to “You Got It (The Right Stuff)” and “I’ll Be Loving You Forever,” but the production is right in keeping with the over-the-top tradition Vegas has become famous for: At one point, each member gets into a telephone booth (great ’80s reference, show runners!) and gets hoisted up and over the audience.

Don’t be the least bit surprised if the group announces yet another extension soon; with ticket sales soaring—and the group’s clear love for Las Vegas—there should be plenty more flying phone booths to come.
