Slice of Vegas bartender mixes conversation and cocktails
She’s been to the “happiest place on earth” more than 200 times! Yes, it’s probably safe to say that Caitlin Ahern is one of Disneyland’s biggest fans. “I love the way the place makes you feel, so carefree,” said the Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., native.
Growing up, she lived less than an hour away from the Magic Kingdom, but nearly two years ago Ahern moved to what some might consider one of the happiest places on earth for adults, Las Vegas. “I wanted to move here to try a new adventure,” she said. One month after she got here she was hired by Slice of Vegas in The Shoppes at Mandalay Place, and it’s still where she is today, working as one of the pizza joint’s bartenders.
“We serve up New York-style pizza—the best you can find. I’ve been told by multiple customers it’s the best crust,” Ahern said. “And one of the best things we have here is our big craft beer selection—it goes great with our pizza. People come here and say, ‘You have this type of beer here? Wow, I can only find this beer back home.’”
But, for Ahern, one of the best parts about working at Slice of Vegas are the people she meets and stories she hears while bartending.
“It’s interesting working on the Strip, because for the most part no one lives here, so it’s cool meeting people from everywhere. I get to meet a new person every day I work.” And if she runs into another Disney fanatic? “I can go head-to-head on the facts,” Ahern said. Think you can beat her? Buy a pie, craft beer and get down to it at Slice of Vegas … she’ll be waiting behind the bar.
Have you ever tried the ice cream treat called the 50/50 Bar? You can now enjoy the adult version of the classic dessert of half vanilla ice cream and half Popsicle when you order Slice of Vegas’ specialty cocktail, the Italian Creamsicle. The sweet and seriously delicious sip is mixed with Malibu coconut rum, banana liqueur, equal parts orange juice and pineapple juice, and a splash of half and half.
