Occasionally playing Guitar Hero and Mortal Kombat was about all the gaming Breea Montijo did. But since joining HyperX Esports Arena at Luxor a little more than a year ago, Montijo is not only into competitive gaming, she’s also in the process of building her own gaming computer. “Being hired (at HyperX) is when I was first introduced to the competitive esports world,” says Montijo, HyperX’s assistant operations manager. “I had no idea how intense this industry was, but now I’m way into it.”

Montijo is finishing her degree in hospitality at the College of Southern Nevada, but she’s been working in the Vegas hospitality industry since high school. She’s done internships on the Strip and has been everything from a lifeguard and hostess to a cabana receptionist at Luxor’s pool. It was during her time there that her boss was offered a position at HyperX, and he brought Montijo with him. She started off as an esports ambassador and after a year of hard work was promoted to her current role.

Besides helping to run day-to-day operations, Montijo puts together major gaming events and tournaments at the arena. “It’s a lot of hard work, but I didn’t expect to like it so much,” she says, smiling.

After graduation does she plan to try a different industry? “I definitely want to stay in the esports industry, I just love it,” she says. “I think it’s gonna expand so much more in the next few years. I think I found my niche.”

“Our energy cocktails are the best,” Montijo says. “They’re so yummy.” And they’re sure to keep those gamers fueled up and gaming! A popular pick is the Chug Jug (for those Fortnite fans out there), which is a mix of Svedka blue raspberry vodka, Red Bull Blue Edition, Bols Blue Curaçao liqueur and fresh raspberries.
