Jay Campos is a busy man—happy, but busy. Monday through Thursday you’ll find him working the laser at his tattoo removal company Shatter Ink. He opened this business during COVID at the end of 2020, and it’s become a great success.

Friday through Sunday you’ll find Campos at Gatsby’s Cocktail Lounge at Resorts World Las Vegas, where he’s the lead VIP host. And it’s where we met him to talk about his role at the hot spot.

He helped open Gatsby’s after working in the Vegas nightlife industry for many years. The California native moved to the city eight years ago to pursue marketing and sales, but was charmed by the possibilities of success in nightlife. He became a host at many popular spots on the Strip, including Hyde at Bellagio and Daylight Beach Club and Light nightclub at Mandalay Bay (both owned by the owners of Gatsby’s). So when they called him to help lead the Resorts World lounge, it was a no-brainer for Campos. “I was all for it, I loved the concept,” he says. “I wanted to be out of the nightclub industry but still wanted to be involved somehow, and I like the lounge—more intimate vibes and I can spend time with the clients and build better relationships.”

Building and maintaining client relationships is the biggest part of Campos’ responsibilities. “Making sure the clients are good when they’re here—from hospitality to service to making sure the servers are taking care of them,” he says. “Making sure they enjoy the venue.”

Whether he’s roaming the room of Gatsby’s and making sure the party is pumping or he’s helping people remove their tattoo regrets, Campos is all about customer service and providing the best in hospitality. “Talking to people, making that connection, showing people a good time—I love hospitality and customer service,” he says. “I’m all about it.

Libation: Champagne Bubble Bath

One of the coolest things about Gatsby’s Cocktail Lounge is its “secret menu.” In order to check it out, you’ll have to ask a server or bartender to get the QR code to scan so you can check out specialty cocktails like the Champagne Bubble Bath, perfect for social media posts. It’s served in a bathtub and mixed with Botanist gin, Aperol, lime and pineapple juices, Monin strawberry, rose syrup and rose cava and topped with champagne, edible rose petals and mojito-foam bubbles.

Benefit: Ask about Return of the Gatz—a themed party that’ll take you back to the wild days of Prohibition.
