Merriliz Monzon is bringing light and love to Las Vegas by way of her monthly class, Sacred Lounge inside The Portal at AREA15.

“The intent is to help people awaken to their own inner connections and also feel community,” says Monzon, the co-host of the class and also the founder of Yin City, a company dedicated to therapeutic arts.

For more than a decade, Monzon, who’s been meditating since the age of 5 (“It has followed me; it’s always been who I am”), has professionally practiced and taught yoga and meditation and “the science of awakening,” she says, learning from teachers in India.

A year ago, she connected with AREA15 after it learned of her company and teachings, and so far the response to her one-hour Sacred Lounge classes has been extremely positive from both visitors and locals.

“The body is meant to move, shake, dance and feel, and to do it in an immersive place with 360-degree projection mapping, lighting, with music, professional sound system and people supporting your process—it’s like nothing Las Vegas has ever had before,” she says.

Monzon’s goal with the classes and Yin City is to continually fulfill her passion. “I’m very passionate about people’s inner connections and state of minds,” she says. “Sacred Lounge leaves people excited, empowered, sometimes vulnerable, also very relaxed and more open. Something shifts. You’re more aware. Everything I do is to help people awaken into higher states of consciousness.”

Libation: Wellness Mocktails

After each Sacred Lounge class, guests are invited to socialize inside the Sanctuary Lounge and enjoy wellness mocktails. Try the Blackberry Rose Nojito with blackberries, lime, lavender simple syrup and ginger beer, and the Stay Golden shot with lemon, agave, pineapple, ginger and mint.

Benefit: The next Sacred Lounge event is Oct. 23. The ticket also includes the social gathering inside Sanctuary Lounge.
