Tucked close to Light Nightclub in Mandalay Bay is the newly opened S Bar (it opened on New Year’s Eve). This elevated lounge is in the former Red Square area, but it has been entirely redone.

S Bar, a franchise from sbe popular in L.A., reflects a retro 1920s vibe in a modern, sophisticated way. The entrance, with curving brass-colored walls and double wood-and-glass doors, reflects that art deco influence. A black marble bar lined with upholstered blue barstools is accented by fringe hanging from the ceiling, creating the look of a tiered chandelier (or a flapper’s skirt). There’s also a small DJ booth, plus intimate booths, tables, and sultry photography throughout.

S Bar specializes in craft cocktails, and, boy, they’re good. There Should Be Unicorns features hibiscus gin, nigori sake and strawberry cream soda, accented by cream, a strawberry and sprinkles. Other options are the Snow Globe, with mezcal, green tea citrus cordial, lime and grapefruit tonic; the Starry Night, with pear brandy, lemon, butterfly pea flower and sparkling rosé; and the Say Less, with blanco tequila, manzanilla sherry, Campari, roasted watermelon, Stiegl Radler and togarashi spice. The Moonage Daydream is an unusual sip with pisco, a salted honeydew peanut cordial, tarragon and egg whites, while the Umeshu Highball combines Ume whiskey, Montenegro amaro and shisho plum wine.

Got a group? Get handcrafted mixers along with a bottle of your choice. For instance, the Whiskey Me Away Tableside Sip delivers the ingredients for a Blackberry Smash and a Basil Sour along with a bottle of Bulleit, Woodford Reserve and WhistlePig Rye.

You’ll want a few snacks or a light meal to take the edge off. Try gourmet deviled eggs, lobster mac and tuna poke. The caprese features burrata, basil, heirloom tomatoes and strawberries, and that unexpected sweetness elevates the simple appetizer. For the meat lovers, try smoked salmon flatbreads; Szechuan lollipop wings; steak tartare; and wagyu sliders with Point Reyes toma cheese.
