Whether it be a connoisseur taking gentle sips or a tailgater doing shot after shot, most everyone is familiar with tequila. But some might not be as familiar with mezcal. While tequila is only made from the blue agave plant, mezcal is made from more than 30 varieties of agave. While tequila is distilled in copper pots, mezcal is distilled in clay pots after being cooked in a pit lined with lava rocks, wood and charcoal. Tequila often gives off a sweet taste, while mezcal offers a more smoky, savory flavor. Thirsty yet? In honor of mezcal, celebrate the spirit on National Mezcal Day on Oct. 21, and do it at Electra Cocktail Club and nearby lounge, The Dorsey.

Electra’s modern, chic space at The Palazzo is perfect for upscale lounging and drinking. Guests can choose from more than 65 mezcals, one of the largest collections on the Strip. Bartenders are ready to tailor a cocktail to your liking—just pick a mezcal, share your favorite drink flavors, and you’ll have a unique cocktail created just for you. Or try one of Electra’s specialty mezcal cocktails like the Age of Aquarius, made with mezcal, Campari, passion fruit, lime and honey.

After celebrating at Electra, take a short walk over to The Venetian and settle in at The Dorsey. This intimate lounge is soundtracked by smooth, underground hip-hop beats and furnished with plush seating and a one-of-a-kind fireplace. Continue National Mezcal Day with the Sunday Service cocktail, mixed with mezcal, aperol, fresh ginger, lemon and cucumber. Or try The Gemini cocktail, a unique blend of mezcal, yellow chartreuse, lemon, agave, whole egg and lemon zest and topped off with club soda. Guests can also sip on a variety of mezcal offerings, like the rare Mezcal Vago Cuixe and Mezcal Vago Elote spirits, made in small batches and available in limited quantities because of the scarcity of this particular agave and the difficulty in harvesting and producing it.

So, whether you make it to these hot spots on Oct. 21 to celebrate mezcal or decide to visit on a different day, Electra Cocktail Club and The Dorsey are two must-visit lounges to get your fix for some smoky, savory libations.
