Although you won’t find the plethora of Latin bands and concerts in Vegas that are usual for this time of year, you can still commemorate Mexico’s independence from Spain. In Las Vegas, you’ll find plenty of places to raise a glass and have a bite to celebrate Mexican Independence Day on Sept. 16.

If you’re in the mood for elegance, SW Steakhouse (702.770.3325) and Lakeside (702.248.3463) at Wynn las Vegas are both offering chef David Walzog’s stellar pairing menu with small-batch tequila producer Casa Dragones through Sept. 16. Some of the incredible dishes include white sturgeon caviar with crisp green chili potato, Brentwood corn and poached scallops with Casa Dragones Barrel Blend corn pudding, Snake River farms rib steak with guajillo chili purée, black truffle and Casa Dragones Barrel Blend compound butter. The barrel blend is a flavorful tequila with a spicy finish, and is also featured in a special cocktail, the Cry of Dolores, an Old Fashioned with mole syrup.
At El Segundo Sol (702.258.1211) at Fashion Show on Sept. 16, take advantage of Loco Hour specials from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. in select areas. You’ll find $5.50 margaritas, $3 tacos, $5 loaded nachos, $6 quesadillas and more. Reservations are recommended.
Happy hour at Day of the Dead-themed Borracha Mexican Cantina (702.617.7190) at Green Valley Ranch resort means a variety of $7 food and drink specials from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday to Friday (and the last time we checked, that means Sept 16, too). Other good spots include Chica at The Venetian (866.659.9643), where Latin dishes and margaritas make any day more pleasant—the F.W. Margarita is pretty darned nice!
Coincidentally, National Guacamole Day is also Sept. 16, and Pancho’s Mexican Restaurant (702.982.0111) in Downtown Summerlin has concocted a limited-edition guacamole that features pepitas, tons of tomatoes and onions, only available on Sept. 16. It also features happy hour from 2-7 p.m., with $3 off select appetizers, margaritas, wine and cocktails.
