If you’ve never eaten at The Bedford by Martha Stewart, please do something about that. Designed after Stewart’s Bedford, N.Y., home, this restaurant has an elegance, but is drenched in comforting, homey energy. And if you have already eaten there, it’s time to return, as the culinary team has just overhauled its menu to have a more seafood-focused approach.

Before we dive into what’s new, there are some must-have mainstays that are totally worthwhile. First and foremost, order the house-made bread basket, because if you don’t, one will arrive at the table next to yours and it will be painfully apparent that you’re missing out. Another great way to start a meal here is an order of Big Martha’s pierogies. Share an order or two with the table and savor the delicious fluffy potato filling that’s been wrapped in delicate dumpling dough and smothered in brown butter sauce. For a sneak peek of the fresh seafood infusion, order the lobster rolls appetizer. Each roll overflows with Maine lobster meat, gets a coating of Meyer lemon aioli , and is then topped with tarragon, celery, capers, chives, and frisée.

Much of the menu comes from Stewart’s own cookbooks, and the entrée section is where you’ll find some of her finest fish dishes. Order the lemon risotto with sea scallops for something extremely satisfying yet bright and citrusy, or consider the honey mustard salmon, served with wilted spinach and confit shallots, for a rich and savory dinner.

If seafood doesn’t quite tickle your fancy, find a favorite bite in the steak options. Consider an 8-ounce wagyu filet or a 16-ounce prime New York strip steak for a single portion, or share the 38-ounce tomahawk for two. All steaks are served with braised leek and watercress for a bit of green and with the option of bordelaise or béarnaise sauces.

With mains so satiating, it’s hard to imagine needing side dishes, but after seeing the options, the dishes on this section of the menu might just be too irresistible to skip. Ooey-gooey four-cheese mac and cheese, Big Martha’s potato purée, blistered shishito peppers … no matter which dish you choose, it’s guaranteed to be a hit.

Don’t forget to sip a refreshing cocktail with the decadent meal you’re sure to enjoy here. For something simple and easy to drink, have the Meyer lemon drop, a mix of Tito’s vodka, Cointreau and Meyer lemon juice (served in a glass with a sugar rim, of course). For something more spirit-forward, try the Martha-tini, made with Zubrówka Bison Grass vodka, dry vermouth and a lemon twist, or Martha’s Perfect Manhattan, featuring Woodford Reserve bourbon, sweet and dry vermouth, Angostura bitters and Luxardo cherries.

Think of skipping dessert? Are you crazy? Try the Upside-Down Lemon Meringue Pie for zesty lemon curd atop baked meringue and topped with fresh whipped cream, or have the whipped topping on the ultra-rich Mile High Chocolate Cake, a devil’s food cake with milk chocolate frosting.
