With March being Women’s History Month, you’ll find plenty of celebrations and events, including this week’s A Celebration of Women in Wine at NoMad Library, honoring groundbreaking work by women in the culinary and wine worlds.

The March 6 dinner spotlights wines from Sonoma County’s La Crema winery and a menu curated by NoMad Library executive chef Isiah Torres, inspired by chefs Julia Child, Alice Waters and Dominique Crenn. Veteran winemaker Lisa Valtenbergs will guide diners and discuss the winery’s approach to both tradition and innovation.

Courses include:

• Canapés accompanied by NV Sparkling Brut Rosé & 2022 Russian River Chardonnay.

• Spring chicory salad with bacon, soft-boiled egg, local herbs and a champagne vinaigrette, plus a 2022 Russian River chardonnay from Saralee’s Vineyard. This course pays homage to Child, whose cooking shows and books (including the iconic Mastering the Art of French Cooking) inspired generations of aspiring chefs and home cooks.

• Surf & turf with Santa Carota filet mignon, butter-poached scallops, braised petite carrots and bordelaise sauce served with a 2022 Sonoma Coast pinot noir and Fog Veil pinot noir. This course is dedicated to Waters, founder of Chez Panisse in California and a force in creating the farm-to-table movement. She is known for her restaurant’s hospitality (influenced by her travels, including her time in Turkey).

• A whipped chèvre tart, macerated strawberries, sherry gastrique and Thai basil, accompanied by a 2022 Sonoma County cabernet sauvignon. This course recognizes Crenn, a restaurateur and TV personality (and Michelin-star holder) who was one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People of 2024.

In Las Vegas, you’ll find plenty of women in the food and beverage scene, including sommeliers like Rina Brussel at Carbone, Kimberly Wittstadt at Spago and Sarah Pamatat at Jasmine, beverage director Laura Suarez at Eataly Las Vegas, chef Winnie Wong at Rivea, owner and chef Nicole Brisson at Brezza and Bar Zazu and MGM Grand executive pastry chef Cynthia Inguanzo.

So as you’re dining, whether at this dinner or another, keep in mind the history in the making you might be a part of.
