Frank Marino was a 19-year-old Joan Rivers impersonator when he first set foot on a Las Vegas stage. Twenty-five thousand shows later, he’s an icon with a hit show, Frank Marino’s Divas Las Vegas, two stars on the Las Vegas Walk of Stars and a new $25 commemorative chip at Divas’ home, The Quad.

“The first night we had Liberace, Sammy Davis Jr. and Redd Foxx in the audience,” Marino said. “I never had that kind of star power in the audience before. It was very surreal.”

Marino finally stepped out on his own nearly five years ago with Divas, a whirlwind showcase of female impersonators ranging from the classic (Liza Minnelli, Bette Midler) to the contemporary (Pink, Katy Perry, Britney Spears). He broke from tradition by adding a movie star (Catherine Zeta-Jones in Chicago) earlier this year, and he hopes to add an Olivia Newton-John impersonator soon.

On May 31, Marino celebrates the milestone with a special performance featuring 25 impersonations (up from the usual 17) and a ceremony presenting him the Key to the Strip. As always, he’ll introduce each of the acts with his trademark gowns and repartee.

“It’s never been done before (25,000 shows), and I don’t think it could be done again. ... It would really take someone a long, long time to do it in the future.”
