Derek Trucks is going all-in with the Tedeschi Trucks Band. After the guitarist ends his 15-year run with the Allman Brothers Band later this year, the band he founded with wife Susan Tedeschi will become his sole focus. Does that scare him at all?

“There are definitely things the Allman Brothers does that I haven’t felt with any other band, but I’ve done that for 15 years,” Trucks told Las Vegas Magazine. “I look forward to the unknown a little bit, where for the last 15, 20 years, there’s always been something musically to fall back on.”

It’s scary to think what TTB could accomplish with Trucks’ full, undivided attention. The 11-piece band, which includes two drummers, two backing vocalists and a horn section, has been firing on all cylinders since 2010, delivering a hybrid of blues, soul, gospel and Allmans jamminess to fans across three continents.

This year alone has seen the band give its first performances in India and Bahrain, and they recently completed a short European tour. To think there’s room to grow is staggering.

“I don’t really see a ceiling for it,” Trucks said. “I feel like it’s all how much time and energy we can put into it right now. Obviously, trying to keep 11 human beings looking in the same direction, that’s a feat, but so far, so good.”
