Lamb of God’s name may make the group sound like a church choir, but make no mistake: This heavy metal band from Virginia is intense (the group’s original name, Burn the Priest, can give you a better idea of where they’re coming from). As one of the bands at the forefront of what’s been dubbed the new wave of American heavy metal, Lamb of God has played a huge part in defining the sound of heavy metal in the last 15 years, and they’ve grown from upstarts to respected veterans over the course of seven albums.
In 2008, Lamb of God was the opening act for the World Magnetic tour by metal legends Metallica; now in 2016, Metallica’s pioneering thrash-metal peers Anthrax are the opening act for the latest Lamb of God tour. That not only shows how successful Lamb of God has become, but also the level of respect the band has for their forebears. This tour also includes critically acclaimed avant-metal group Deafheaven and up-and-coming thrash/hard-core band Power Trip, making for a diverse metal show that represents Lamb of God’s status as both carriers of metal’s legacy and leaders of the genre’s future.
