Steely Dan and Steve Winwood have produced some of the most influential music in rock history, and they’ve both been honored for it by being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Now the two legendary acts have teamed up to bring their decades of classic songs together on June 19.
Core Steely Dan duo Donald Fagen and Walter Becker are known for their intricate, meticulous approach to music, with complex songs influenced by jazz and soul. Although the duo has taken long stretches between releasing albums and hasn’t put out any new material since 2003’s Everything Must Go, their live shows include a range of songs from the Steely Dan catalog (including hits like “Reelin’ in the Years,” “Do It Again” and “Rikki Don’t Lose That Number”) as well as the two members’ solo careers.
Winwood was inducted into the Rock Hall as a member of Traffic, but he’s had an equally successful solo career, in a slightly more pop-friendly direction than Steely Dan, with hits like “Higher Love” and “Back in the High Life Again.” His renowned multi-instrumental skills make him a perfect complement to the musical perfectionists in Steely Dan, for a night of intelligent classic rock.
