Two comic legends should amount to around 2,000 laughs—that’s surely a conservative estimate. And that’s what you’re in for at the cheekily titled An Evening You Will Forget for the Rest of Your Life–i.e., a pairing of Steve Martin and Martin Short.
Expect a comic mash-up as these two amigos take audiences along on their twin career retrospectives via stand-up routines, film clips, show-biz stories, musical numbers and banjo-plucking, the latter backed by Martin’s frequent road-show companions, the bluegrass ensemble Steep Canyon Rangers.
Having met while making 1986’s Three Amigos! the two formed an enduring friendship based partly on good-natured needling. “We insult each other continuously.” Short told Conan O’Brien on his late-night show. For instance, at The AFI Salute to Steve Martin, Short nearly complimented his buddy. “There are very few people I truly admire,” Short told the star-studded crowd, “and Steve Martin is very close to being one of them.”
Not to be outdone, on O’Brien’s show, Martin shared vacation photos and stopped on one with Short, his traveling companion. “Here I am,” Martin said, “spending time with St. Barts’ village idiot.”
Feel the love. And relish the laughs.
