Face it. They’re faceless. Facial expressiveness should not be on your list of expectations while experiencing the artistry of the masked, miming Jabbawockeez crew during their inventive production, Jreamz: Journey Within. Yet the purposeful facelessness only heightens the sensations you’ll feel in your head and heart.

Sleek choreography peppered with signature gravity-defying break dancing frames a trippy tableau of music, 3-D video projections, physical comedy and audience interaction that, as the title indicates, coalesces into an onstage dreamscape. Our blank-faced, hollow-eyed, black-clad imps move silently through their animated antics set to an eclectic soundtrack.

Projections whisk audience members into the far reaches of imagination—such as a frolic through a mushroom forest—though some play off pop culture references, such as the video game Street Fighter V. Jreamz’s plot—yes, there’s a plot—involves the character of PJ (who also wears them) as a zombie—a metaphor for a fellow living a mundane life. As the vivid atmospherics pour forth, the zombie is encouraged by his fellow Jabbas to bust some killer moves and awaken to the reinvigorating joys of a zesty life. And as an announcer informs us at the climax: “Choose life. Whatever you do, don’t be a zombie.”
