The list of cool things about Donavon Frankenreiter is long. It starts with his name. There are so many interesting things one could be with the name Donavon Frankenreiter. Professional wrestler, mad scientist, New York art critic or in the case of real life—surf rocker! Frankenreiter, 44, has been releasing laid-back grooves since his self-titled album in 2004. These are easy, chill jams for big wave hunters to relax to in between surf sessions.

Here’s another cool thing: Frankenreiter toured throughout Brazil on the Monstra Alma Surf Festival which featured other bands, surf artists, a surf photographer and a surf filmmaker.

Cool thing No. 3: The guitarist and vocalist once released an EP with fellow groove sharks Jack Johnson and G Love called Some Songs Live. The six pack of tunes features four songs the trio recorded on surf legend Kelly Slater’s radio show K-OS.

Yet another cool thing: Frankenreiter has released two volumes of Recycled Recipes where he covers well-known rock songs and make them chill. Volume 1 features a very mellow take on Creedence Clearwater Revival’s protest burner “Fortunate Son.” Volume 2 slows down Tom Petty’s “American Girl.”
