A Perfect Circle fans consider any chance to see the art-rock supergroup a blessing, even if frontman Maynard James Keenan might prefer to characterize it as an opportunity made possible by aligned schedules. APC’s first tour in six years kicks off with three dates in Vegas at the Pearl at Palms Casino Resort and concludes May 7 at the Hollywood Bowl. That’s not the end of the band’s activity for 2017, though. A new album is in the works, and with Keenan’s pop-culture profile still high after his biography, A Perfect Union of Contrary Things, became a best-seller last year, APC has a perfect crest of momentum to ride.
The current lineup features Keenan—who has placed a lot of emphasis on Puscifer, the other project he works on apart from alt-metal forefathers Tool, in the past few years—and co-founder Billy Howerdel, along with former Smashing Pumpkin James Iha, bassist Matt McJunkins and drummer Jeff Friedl. Howerdel has been working on new tracks for several years, but Keenan’s refocusing on A Perfect Circle at the beginning of this year means fans will have a new APC album for the first time since 2004’s Emotive. The tour allows Howerdel and Keenan to revisit music of the past before moving into the future.
