If you thought about the most psychotic dream you’ve ever had, it probably wouldn’t come close to the reality that is the Mockstrosity Tour, a heavy metal marathon of unwavering ridicule and parody featuring Mac Sabbath, Metalachi and Okilly Dokilly.
Mac Sabbath–a Black Sabbath cover band that replaces the lyrics with satirical fast food imagery–became an instant viral sensation once music publications such as Consequence of Sound and Stereogum posted the band’s video of “Frying Pan” (“Iron Man”). The video shows a demented gang of distorted McDonald’s-like characters led by Ronald Osbourne, a twisted representation of Ronald McDonald wielding a giant straw. Other songs include “Sweet Beef” (Sweet Leaf) and “Organic Funeral” (“Electric Funeral”).
If that wasn’t strange (and awesome) enough, Metalachi is a group of Mexican renegades that transform hard rock’s heaviest songs, such as “Crazy Train,” “Sweet Child O’ Mine” and “Immigrant Song,” into traditional mariachi tunes. Okilly Dokilly assumes the character of Homer Simpson’s friendly neighborino Ned Flanders, performing originals built on a mixture of Flanders quotes and guttural screaming, all while dressed in his trademark green sweater and wire-rim glasses. Together, this trio of satire and scorn upend reality into one night of complete metal mayhem.
