Whether it’s the violinist sitting first-chair in an orchestra or the lead singer of a hair-metal tribute band, all musicians share one common goal: The hope to elicit emotion in those receiving their art. The best musicians, of course, possess the power to push multiple emotional buttons. Trey Songz is one such artist. Born Tremaine Neverson, Songz began touching the souls of fans in 2005, when he released his debut album I Gotta Make It. Since then, the 32-year-old singer-songwriter has proven he can successfully cross genres—namely, R&B and hip-hop—often within the same album. He’s also proven he can produce tracks that cover the emotional spectrum.

No matter what mood you desire—joyful, reflective, sensual, enlivened—Songz can take you there with such top 20 hits as “Bottom’s Up,” “Can’t Help But Wait” and “Heart Attack,” the latter two of which were nominated for Grammys.

Songz once again displays his songwriting and vocal abilities in Tremaine the Album, his seventh studio work that was released March 24 and debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200. Just like the six albums that preceded it, Tremaine the Album—as well as his current Tremaine the Tour—comes with an implicit warning: Prepare to be moved.
