For fans of early ’00s emo, the co-headlining tour featuring Coheed and Cambria. pictured, and Taking Back Sunday is pretty much a dream come true. Both bands released their debut albums in 2002 and went on to have major influences on subsequent emo, post-hardcore and alternative rock artists for the next decade.

Coheed’s music leans more toward prog rock, with elaborate concept albums that tell the ongoing story of the two characters for which the band is named. Frontman Claudio Sanchez is known for his soaring voice and his mass of curly hair, and he’s equally known for his dense, complex lyrics, which form the science-fiction narrative The Amory Wars. After releasing its first-ever nonconcept album in 2015, the band returns to the Amory Wars world with forthcoming release Vaxis–Act I: The Unheavenly Creatures.

Taking Back Sunday may be less conceptually ambitious, but they’re no less musically accomplished. TBS’ 2002 debut Tell All Your Friends is a landmark emo album, and the band has seen renewed popularity since its original lineup reunited in 2010. That lineup released its third post-reunion album, Tidal Wave, in 2016. TBS will provide the intensity to go with Coheed’s grandeur for an evening celebrating emo’s past and future.
