If you ask Marlon Wayans if he’s really happy, the answer is yes. “Yes, I love life,” said the actor, producer, comedian, writer and film director in a recent interview with Las Vegas Magazine. “I truly find positive spins on the majority of things that happen to me.”

And the star of comedies like Scary Movie and serious movies like Requiem For a Dream brings that point of view to his stand-up comedy act. “I love making people smile, and my own therapy is onstage,” Wayans said. “I talk about me and how things impact me. I share my personal journey and believe that things that happen to you are meant to better you, not break you.” He keeps it a little loose, though. “I don’t know what I am going to say or do onstage half the time—this is a different side of me (than audiences see in his TV shows or movies).”

You can get a sneak peek of that stand-up this week in Vegas, but you can also catch Wayans on the small screen—he is the star, creator and executive producer of the NBC sitcom Marlon, which was recently renewed for a second season. He stars in the Netflix film Naked, and taped his first-ever stand-up comedy special in Washington D.C.; it’s scheduled to air on Netflix later this year.
