Fanning the Fans’ Fervor
When a group of Colorado-based musicians formed a country-rock band in 1974, they selected a name that had nothing to do with their Rocky Mountain roots: Firefall. In fact, founding member Rick Roberts picked the name as an homage to the Yosemite Firefall he witnessed during a 1960s visit to Yosemite National Park, where each summer night a large pile of burning wood was hurtled over a high cliff, creating a waterfall of flames. Much like many of their contemporaries, the odd-sounding name didn’t keep Firefall from achieving mass success—the band’s résumé includes two platinum albums, three gold albums and 11 charting singles, highlighted by their biggest hit, “You Are the Woman.” Although Roberts departed in 1981, three other original members have continued to keep Firefall burning at gigs from coast to coast.

Irresistible Eats
Walk down the brick-lined tunnel and you’re instantly transported to classic Las Vegas. Andiamo Steakhouse is a long-loved Detroit favorite, as the Italian steakhouse sources the finest meats from top purveyors and all pasta is fresh and handmade. The restaurant’s famous zip sauce also has to be tasted to be believed—one dip of your filet mignon, porterhouse or New York strip and you’ll be hooked.

Just Add Water
There’s plenty of awesome places downtown to get your drink on, but no other bar and lounge can say it has sharks and fish swimming next to the bottles of booze, except the H2O Bar at Golden Nugget.
Located outside in the property’s massive $30 million Tank pool complex, the bar is situated next to the 200,000-gallon shark tank that houses six different types of sharks and more than 250 fish.
There’s plenty of seating on sofas and daybeds; there’s also a giant whirlpool to enjoy. Not that the hot weather will make you want to warm your body, but situated around the bar are six fire pits, perfect for gathering around and making conversation. Guests can indulge in a variety of specialty frozen fruit-flavored cocktails, classic and modern selections as well as wine.
