Going Deep

Given the depths from which he came and the heights he improbably reached, Art Alexakis likely would’ve been forgiven had he chosen long ago to shut down Everclear, the popular alt-rock band he formed and fronted throughout the 1990s and into the millennium. After all, the two bandmates who teamed with Alexakis to record Everclear’s biggest hits departed in 2003 after 11 years with the group. . Around the same time, many of Everclear’s alt-rock contemporaries began to fade from a rapidly changing music scene.

Rather than fold up the tent, however, Alexakis—who overcame early family trauma and drug addiction to live the rock ’n’ roll dream—doubled down, bringing in a revolving cast of musicians who for the past 15 years have kept alive such Alexakis-penned anthems as “Santa Monica,” “Wonderful,” and “Father of Mine.” Even better: In recent years, Alexakis has been motivated to pepper Everclear’s sets with deeper tracks that fans haven’t heard—and he hasn’t performed—in years. “It’s still important to play the hits, but by playing those other songs as well, it makes it all seem more vibrant and real,” he says on the band’s website. “I’m having more fun now than I have in years.” –Matt Jacob

Nacho Daddy

It’s so much more than just a plate of nachos. This is what Vegas-born Nacho Daddy claims. They also claim you’ll never find a dry chip in your order. So far, the Daddy don’t lie.

With multiple locations across the city, the downtown Nacho Daddy location is a cool haunt with a great happy hour (3-6 p.m. daily) and an excellently priced Taco & Tequila Tuesday, with street taco specials and 2-for-1 tequila shots.

Since its arrival in Vegas in 2010, Nacho Daddy has become a local and tourist favorite with its “gourmet nachos,” tasty chips, and salsas and quesos, made fresh and in-house, daily. The Mexican-American eatery has kept up with the trends, too, by offering an amazingly tasty vegan menu. Yes, vegan nachos!

And in honor of our new hometown heroes, Nacho Daddy offers the Vegas Golden Knights Nachos—corn chips with marinated filet mignon, jack and cheddar cheeses, yellow queso, sautéed onions, mushrooms, red and green peppers and pickled peppers. –Kiko Miyasato
