Motownphilly is Back

Four Grammy Awards, nine American Music Awards, seven Soul Train Awards, more than 60 million albums sold ... those are just some of the accolades from one of the best-selling R&B groups of all time. From 10 to one, just like in “Uhh Ahh” from their debut album Cooleyhighharmony, Boyz II Men—comprised of Wanya Morris, Nathan Morris and Shawn Stockman—count down before stepping into the spotlight.

The trio run through some of their biggest hits spanning more than two decades, including the tearful, mellow “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday” and the beautiful dedication to mothers, “A Song for Mama,” in addition to “On Bended Knee” and “Water Runs Dry” from their Grammy Award-winning album II. Getting serenaded by these three is no myth; after all, they are known to have a few sexy slow jams or two. During “I’ll Make Love to You,” long-stemmed red roses are given out to lucky ladies, while their live rendition of “End of the Road” gets more up close and personal with in-the-audience action.

In a trip down memory lane, the fellas take it back to their high school days in Philly, singing The Five Satins’ “In the Still of the Night”—a capella style. The Temptations’ “My Girl” and Smokey Robinson’s “The Tracks of My Tears” make the set list as Boyz II Men pay homage in a moving Motown tribute. But no Boyz II Men show is complete without the hip-hop, feel-good sounds of “Motownphilly,” a track that depicts where their rise to fame all began. Philly is here to stay. –Chanelle Hayes
