Champions Taking the Court

Vegas has always been a hoops-crazy town, from the legacy of the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels to the long-running NBA Summer League and today’s Las Vegas Aces of the WNBA. On Aug. 9, the USA Men’s National Team will return to the Strip for an intrasquad exhibition game at T-Mobile Arena as it gears up for the 2019 FIBA World Cup, which will be held later this summer. It’s a chance for fans to catch some of the world’s best athletes learning to play together as they focus on the goal of capturing a third-straight World Cup for the United States, which has won five titles since the international tournament began in 1950.

Must-See: Matt Goss

Matt Goss has been leading a musical double-life for the past decade, since he sang in his debut Las Vegas show at the former Lounge at the Palms. The English singer has sold more than 5 million records over the course of his career, thanks to his stint in U.K. boy band Bros, and his star is shining brighter than ever across the pond after reuniting with his brother Luke two years ago for a series of Bros shows and an acclaimed documentary film After the Screaming Stops. Goss has been spending more time back home but he still loves Vegas, and he's celebrating 10 years as a Vegas headliner with a special version of his stylish show at 1 OAK at The Mirage on Aug. 11.

Around the Strip

After they rocked the stage individually at Park Theater for the Night Running Tour, Beck and Cage The Elephant frontman Matt Shultz crossed the casino floor at Park MGM and kept the party going at On the Record, where club proprietors (and twin brothers) Jonnie and Mark Houston were celebrating their birthday. The foursome teamed up for a karaoke version of A-Ha’s ’80s classic “Take On Me” in one of the speakeasy-style club’s private rooms before returning to the party, also attended by actor Shane West, actress Tatiana Carr and model Tina Louise.

Miles Teller, one of the stars of Top Gun: Maverick, recently held his bachelor party at the Palms, spotted out and about with friends and incoming in-laws at Scotch 80 Prime and KAOS Nightclub and Dayclub. Also celebrating at a Strip dayclub that weekend: Actor Cory Feldman, who partied with friends to mark his 48th birthday at Bare Pool Lounge at The Mirage.

DJ and tennis whiz Redfoo (aka Stefan Gordy, son of Motown icon Berry Gordy) hit The Venetian to celebrate his mother Nancy’s birthday with dinner and more at Tao. Redfoo is a longtime friend of the Tao Group as his former act LMFAO was a mainstay at Marquee Nightclub, and he’s also an assistant coach of the Vegas Rollers, the city’s new pro tennis team competing in the World Team Tennis organization. Also at Tao: actor Anthony Mackie, who was on his way to Comic-Con to help announce his new Marvel TV show The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
