Rick Derringer made history in 1965 when his single with The McCoys, “Hang On Sloopy,” blasted to the top of the music charts. Only 17 at the time, Derringer’s been pounding out hits ever since. An accomplished vocalist, guitarist and music producer, the former McCoys frontman has worked behind the scenes with artists as diverse as Meatloaf, Bonnie Tyler, Barbra Streisand, Steely Dan, Weird Al Yankovic and even the World Wrestling Federation.

Derringer’s first solo album, All American Boy, rose up the charts in 1973, fueled by the ageless hit “Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo.” That anthem is still a favorite of ’70s cover bands and has been rerecorded by numerous other artists, including Derringer himself. Still releasing original music in the 2000s, the 71-year-old has recently toured with psychedelia-heavy Vanilla Fudge, Mitch Ryder and Ringo Starr’s All-Starr Band. Now he’s bringing his solo retrospective to the Golden Nugget for an evening of powerhouse hits.
