is a story of adventure and conflict, but the real battle is against gravity. Cirque du Soleil’s ambitious production at the MGM Grand unfolds almost entirely on a levitating stage that tilts, turns and, at times, stands vertically upright.

The plot is more structured and defined than in most Cirque shows—a dual tale of separated twins under attack and on the run among an unidentified but colorful cultural backdrop. The story isn’t always easy to follow, but it’s really just an excuse to journey to a variety of visually intriguing environments. Sometimes you’re at the bottom of the sea or in between giant blades of grass. Other dramatic effects include a simulated shipwreck and a bat-like flying machine. In the middle of all this, you’ll see flaming arrows, fireworks and shadow puppets.

The costumes are remarkable (even by Cirque standards), ranging from jungle warriors to jumbo-sized beach creatures, including a crab, turtle and starfish. Like all great Cirque shows, there’s excitement, comedy and even a touch of romance. The tone is sometimes ominous, but always engaging. Don’t worry about the narrative too much. Just let go and enjoy the spectacle.
