When friends Chris Wink, Phil Stanton and Matt Goldman first conceived what would come to be known as Blue Man Group in the late 1980s, they were clearly guided by the old idiom: “Let’s march to the beat of our own drum.” And, boy, did they.

The trio’s blueprint for Blue Man Group called for three bald-headed, blue-painted characters to blend comedy, music and art in a semi-interactive, highly percussive show in which the muted Blue Men would “speak” exclusively through handmade instruments.

To say the idea worked would be a gross understatement: Since debuting at a small New York theater in 1991, Blue Man Group has entertained more than 35 million people across 20 countries and cemented its place in pop-culture lore.

An institution on the Las Vegas Strip since March 2000, Blue Man Group is now raising the experience bar by offering fans who purchase upgraded tickets on select dates the chance to peek behind the curtain during a 75-minute backstage tour. You’ll better understand what makes this eclectic show tick—and why sometimes marching to the beat of your own drum makes sense.
