This 50th anniversary tour of the production Jesus Christ Superstar goes back to the roots of the original work, according to Jenna Rubaii, who portrays Mary Magdalene.

“It is a testament to how the work has held since the debut,” Rubali said in an interview with Las Vegas Magazine. “The production is high-energy with a fresh mix of traditional music theater, a live music concert and dance concert, but keeps to the concept of the original recording. This is an ensemble show with lots of choreography.”

Rubali, who sings one of the most iconic tunes from the score, “I Don’t Know How to Love Him,” said, “It isn’t a romantic song, but it is a love song. People sometimes misunderstand this because of the devotion, care and wonder Mary Magdalene felt towards Jesus. She, of all people around him, understood who he was.”

She added, “We want people to look at these characters as true human beings with real emotions such as love, fear, betrayal and compassion and they were trying to understand what was happening at the time.”
