Sweet Sounds

There’s no doubt that Gwen Stefani is one of the most colorful princesses on the pop scene. Like a veritable confection of musical candy, everything about her is brighter than reality. With a sunny wardrobe, cherry-red lipstick and flowing vanilla hair, it’s hard not to think of Stefani as anything but sweet.

Her music may be fizzy and fun, but Stefani is anything but a lightweight when it comes to her career. Instrumental in founding No Doubt with brother Eric, she suspended her college studies to tour when the band achieved mainstream success. By the time she’d settled back into the classroom, No Doubt had already received a Grammy nod and Stefani had earned the title “Queen of Confessional Pop” by Rolling Stone magazine.

Stefani’s sensibilities lend themselves to a variety of business enterprises and charitable causes. She’s created lines of cosmetics, perfumes, eyeglasses and two clothing brands that reflect her style. In 2014, Nickelodeon network collaborated with the star on an animated series to inspire individuality in young girls.

After branching out from No Doubt, Stefani racked up numerous awards for female-centric hits like “Rich Girl,” “Hollaback Girl” and “The Sweet Escape.” Her star rose even higher after sliding into the coach’s chair for season seven of The Voice. Still a member of the cast, she initially alternated places with fellow judge Christina Aguilera.

This year, Stefani and Aguilera are once again taking turns, this time headlining at Planet Hollywood Resort’s Zappos Theater. Gwen Stefani—Just A Girl integrates the biggest songs from the No Doubt era with top-selling solo albums like Love. Angel. Music. Baby. and This Is What the Truth Feels Like. Expect a dazzling night of nonstop song and dance, wild costumes and, of course, an explosion of color. –Sam Novak
