Getting the Band Back Together

Fans around the world were devastated when the Jonas Brothers announced their split in 2013. Citing artistic/personal differences and a desire to explore individual paths, the brothers Jonas went their separate ways. Unless you’re The Beatles, that decision usually guarantees a one-way ticket to obscurity. But the boys are back with a career-high new album—and they’re headed to Las Vegas with a brand new show.

Unlike fabricated pop groups, these actual siblings grew up together in the public spotlight, which would put a strain on any family bond. During their six years apart, they each came into their own with solo projects that ranged from Nick’s acclaimed TV series Kingdom to Joe’s hit-making band DNCE (“Cake By the Ocean”) and Kevin’s reality show, Married to Jonas.

Despite a lack of new group recordings, the band never faded from public awareness ... or the flashbulbs of the ever-present paparazzi. Each guy graced headlines with high-profile weddings. That was especially true of Nick, whose three (!) ceremonies with actress/singer Priyanka Chopra became the stuff of tabloid fodder.

Last year was when reunion rumors began in earnest, sparked by a resuscitated Jonas Brothers Instagram account. Things kicked into high gear on Feb. 28 of this year with an official comeback announcement, followed by the brand new single “Sucker” just one day later. A companion music video featuring their three wives won Best Pop Video at 2019’s MTV Video Music Awards.

This summer saw the release of Happiness Begins, the fifth Jonas Brothers studio album. It debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart with the biggest per-week sales of the year. Then came the Happiness Begins Tour, their first concert extravaganza in a decade. Launched in August, the tour will hit over 90 U.S. and European cities and arrives in Las Vegas on Oct. 18.
