There was one year that Bryan Means rang in the new year with company including the Kardashians, Kanye West, Wiz Khalifa, Kid Cudi and more. Not a bad way to celebrate—but it’s just one of many amazing nights Means has experienced as lead host for 1 OAK at The Mirage.

For years, Means has played host to various celebrities, athletes and tourists looking to enjoy Vegas nightlife. “In nightlife, you’re dealing with everyone’s happy moments,” Means says. “We take someone’s evening out and make sure it’s memorable. Weddings, birthdays, milestones—I love the fact that we get to share in people’s most memorable moments.”

Means has worked hard to achieve his current position. He worked front desk and housekeeping at hotels while attending college in his home state of West Virginia. Then, one trip to Las Vegas for fun turned into a goal to move here and start a career. He made that transition in 2008, landing a position at the Rio’s front desk. With hard work and determination, he moved up the ladder to hotel manager. “I knew where I wanted to go and I asked for it,” he says. “I really didn’t take no for an answer.” A couple of years later, he was looking for a change and decided to put his skills to the test in the nightlife industry, starting as a junior host at Jet nightclub, which is now 1 OAK (which he helped relaunch in 2011). His tenacious work ethic once again moved him up the ladder and, in January, he was made lead host.

“My No. 1 thing that people always notice—I don’t show being tired,” Means says. “I’ll go out after work to network, meeting others in the industry to improve business. I’m very good with organizational skills. … And the fact that this is truly what I like to do. It’s been almost a decade and still I think, ‘I’m blessed to have this job, to do this for a career.’”
