Sara Bareilles may never have been a real waitress, but she certainly has a wonderful connection with that profession since she composed the music and lyrics for the hit Broadway show of that name. Bareilles earned a 2016 Tony nomination and a 2017 Grammy nomination for Waitress, and then kicked that up a notch when she took over the lead in the production in 2017, marking her Broadway debut.
Funnily enough, the movie Waitress was released in 2007, the same year the young Bareilles became well-known in mainstream music, winning critical praise, and instant fans for “Love Story.” That song was released a month before her debut album, Little Voice, and that album went to No. 1 in multiple countries; the song earned her three Grammy noms.
Follow-up album Kaleidoscope Heart yielded the megahit “King of Anything” and cemented her place in mainstream music. The singer, composer, actress and author (Yes, she wrote a book in 2015) is currently on tour promoting her newest album, Amidst the Chaos. Joining her at Mandalay Bay for her Vegas concerts this week is Emily King.
