When Alter Bridge started in 2004, it was a side project for Creed members Mark Tremonti, Brian Marshall and Scott Phillips, while their main band was on hiatus. But even when Creed returned to active touring and recording, Alter Bridge (which also includes frontman Myles Kennedy) continued on, having established its own identity as one of the most successful hard rock bands of the ’00s. All four members have other musical outlets, but there’s a special chemistry that keeps them returning to Alter Bridge no matter what else they work on.

The band racked up a series of rock radio hits in the ’00s, including “Open Your Eyes,” “Find the Real,” “Rise Today” and “Watch Over You” and has been a steady presence on rock radio ever since. Alter Bridge’s members are hard rock staples, from Kennedy’s work on Slash’s solo albums to Tremonti’s eponymous solo band and Phillips’ collaborations with members of Sevendust in the band Projected. They bring all of that varied experience to Alter Bridge, and the band’s 2019 album Walk the Sky is one of its most highly acclaimed, debuting in the top 10 of the album charts in six different countries. That’s not bad for a onetime side project.
