Beloved Vegas icon Siegfried Fischbacher died Jan. 13 of pancreatic cancer, just eight months after partner Roy Horn passed due to complications from COVID-19.

Longtime Las Vegas resident Fischbacher was half of the Siegfried & Roy magic act, which combined large cats and spectacular magic to create an extremely popular show in the ’70s and ’80s. The pair opened their long-running fan-favorite show at The Mirage in 1990, just a few months after the resort itself opened. That same year, they opened Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat, which was dedicated to conservation, research and educational awareness of their animals. (The attraction was selected for Las Vegas Magazine’s 2021 Hall of Fame).

Siegfried & Roy became a huge draw for The Mirage, and continued that run until 2003, when the show closed after Horn was injured onstage by a tiger.

Throughout the years, the two were known for their philanthropy and animal conservation efforts. A public memorial is planned for a future date and in lieu of flowers, donations in Fischbacher’s name can be made to the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health (keepmemoryalive.org).
