One of the most versatile and accomplished entertainers in today’s Vegas scene is back onstage this week. Eric Jordan Young, a singer, dancer, actor, choreographer and producer who has appeared in Las Vegas in Rock of Ages, Vegas! The Show, Starlight Express, The Cocktail Cabaret and more, and on Broadway in Chicago, Ragtime the Musical and Seussical, will perform his own original In This Moment at The Space, a theater just off the Strip at Polaris and Harmon, on March 13 at 6 p.m. If you can’t get tickets at thespacelv.com, you can livestream the show there.

“I chose to name it In This Moment because I didn’t know what the moment would be,” Young says. “March 13 is one year to the day that I was laid off and … that was a pretty jarring day, so I wanted to do something that would encompass all the different shows I did during the year.”

His pandemic-clouded year of performance included virtual shows and live showcases with celebrated pianist Philip Fortenberry, who performed the music for the HBO Liberace film Behind the Candelabra and will join Young at the Space this week.

Young was directing a cruise line production of Footloose last year when so many things were shut down to fight the spread of COVID-19. Like so many of his peers in the Las Vegas entertainment industry, he has managed to stay creative and soldier on during a dark period, and has come to think of his career and artistry in a different way with extra time to reflect.

“I’m still swimming in that pool of … what do I want to do and what is important to me,” he says. “I don’t think I could ever stop performing. There’s a satisfaction I get when I’m able to share my voice and my body as a dancer and actor that is kind of like a wonderful high. But I also find that in being a director and choreographer as well.

“I’m just hoping the future brings a lot of that. I want to continue to build shows and do projects and collaborate with people on that level.”
