On the night of April 6, 1933, people gathered outside breweries and bars across the country, waiting for the sun to rise on April 7. On that day, the Cullen-Harrison Act went into effect, making the sale of low-alcohol beer legal once again. After more than 13 years of Prohibition, citizens across the country indulged in more than 1 million barrels of beer. And in 2009, National Beer Day recognized that event. In honor of the holiday, check out some beer hot spots across the city on April 7.

Cabo Wabo Cantina at Miracle Mile Shops will offer half-off draft beer, including Dos Equis, Estrella Jalisco and Sammy’s Red Head, from 3-5 p.m. For nondraft beer, head to AmeriCAN Beer & Cocktails at The Linq Promenade. This red, white and blue-themed bar offers more than 70 canned beers with selections from each of the 50 states.

Talk about a selection—there might not be a bigger offering than Mega Bar at Circa Resort & Casino. Guests can pick from 120 beers on tap! While downtown, stop into a real microbrewery at Main Street Station’s Triple 7 Restaurant & Microbrewery. From grain to glass, Triple 7 completes the entire beer-making process in-house, and about six year-round beers and two seasonals are offered.

For a classic beer experience, get yourself over to Rí Rá Irish Pub at The Shoppes at Mandalay Place or Nine Fine Irishmen at New York-New York. At both spots, you can snag a perfect pour of Guinness—nice, cold, and with a dense head on top.

For something a little different when it comes to beer, two spots are worth checking out. Trustworthy Brewing Co. at The Palazzo, where they also brew beer onsite, offers beer ice cream. The Beer Ice Cream Trio offers three scoops of Showroom Ready Hazy IPA, Brass Jar Caramel and What Plane? Oatmeal Stout in the form of ice cream. For just plain fun, give beer pong a try at RedTail at Resorts World—except this beer pong is giant. Yup, those popular red Solo cups used for the college-craze game are about the size of barrels, and you throw volleyballs into them … unfortunately the actual beer you drink comes in regular-size cups.
