Justin Alonzo offers anyone that comes to Topgolf Las Vegas a swinging good time. As lead instructor, it’s his job to help guests get that perfect swing. “My favorite part of my job is being able to see a person’s swing transform through the lesson,” he says. “Being able to see them hit the ball a lot straighter and a lot further—it makes me really happy.”
You can hire Alonzo to come to your hitting bay and teach you or your group the technicalities of golf. “I take basics and move it into the normal golf swing like what you’d be doing on a golf course,” he says. “I like to get them started with a nice, easy grip and getting the swing down. I help them visualize a golf course and tell them how to keep a ball as straight as possible.”
You’re in good hands with Alonzo, who’s been playing golf for nearly two decades. He’s even finishing his last semester at UNLV, studying professional golf management. He linked up with Topgolf during an internship a few years ago and eventually got hired by the golf entertainment complex. “I definitely want to stick with Topgolf and try and become a director of instruction,” he says. “But long-term, I could see myself owning my own golf course one day, either here in Vegas, or Texas or Montana.”
It’s not just a job for Alonzo either; golf is a love. You can find him on the golf course—his favorites are Las Vegas National and Rhodes Ranch (both open to the public)—playing for fun and working on his 4 handicap.
“I never thought I’d be an instructor,” Alonzo sums up. “I thought my calling was to play professionally. But throughout the years I’ve found my calling in teaching.”
