The Cinco de Mayo holiday has become somewhat of a novelty celebration in the U.S., but the date marks an historic battle for the Mexican army who defeated the French forces at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. Now Vegas marks the special day all week long with good food, drinks and parties, Mexican style—and there’s plenty of hot spots to commemorate the occasion.
• On May 5, stop by Proper Bar at Proper Eats Food Hall at Aria, and for just $24 enjoy all-you-can-drink margaritas and tequila pours (two-hour time limit). Extras include $8 fresh-made churros and a roaming mariachi band from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
• On Thursday, May 7, head to ¡VIVA! By Ray Garcia at Resorts World Las Vegas for La Vida Latin Nights from 6-11 p.m. The patio transforms into an open-air nightclub with live music, DJ and dancefloor with Latin and Mexican beats. Also at the restaurant, stop by every Saturday and Sunday for the new La Brunch with Latin-inspired cuisine, DJ and roaming performers from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
• At Cabo Wabo Cantina at Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood, celebrations begin May 2 and go through May 5 at the Cabo San Lucas-inspired beachy restaurant that sits along the Strip. The daytime patio fiesta includes special giveaways, brand activations, specialty pours from Patrón and Dos Equis and DJ sets, and margaritas will be flowing made with owner Sammy Hagar’s own Santo tequila.
• Speaking of margaritas, we’ve got a couple of spots you’ll want to hit up on May 5. Some of the best margaritas in town are at El Segundo Sol at FSLV—Fashion Show Las Vegas. The frozen strawberry margaritas are a favorite, and on May 5 enjoy live music, DJs and shot girls. Elevate your Cinco de Mayo celebration at Javier’s at Aria and sip on the margarita de piña and the margarita de jalapeño.
• For all things Mexican goodness, head to Chayo Mexican Kitchen + Tequila Bar at The Linq Promenade. Not only can you ride the mechanical bull and choose from one of the largest selections of tequilas on the Strip but imbibe the tasty watermelon margarita. Don’t miss the restaurant’s popular Latin Night every Friday and Saturday. You must be 21+, it’s always free to get in and the space transforms into a Latin nightclub with DJs, nightclub lighting and an always packed dancefloor.
• Over at The Shops at Crystals, upscale Mexican steakhouse Toca Madera offers a special celebration on May 5 with playful mini cocktails with flavors like vodka and lychee, tequila and passionfruit and mezcal and orange, fire guitarists and Baile folklorico dancers and an extended happy hour from 2-7 p.m.
• Take the party crew up 60 floors to the stunning Legacy Club at Circa Resort & Casino on May 5 for its Cinco On 60 party, beginning at 6 p.m. The spacious lounge offers upscale surroundings indoors and a huge patio with tons of seating, fire pits and views of downtown and the city beyond. The high-energy party will feature DJs pumping out hot Latin beats and specialty margarita and mezcal cocktails.
• Nightclubs celebrate Cinco De Mayo, too! At Omnia at Caesars Palace, American-Chilean singer Paloma Mami puts on a special performance on May 3. DJ Yo Yolie spins a special set at Omnia on May 5 and then at Palm Tree Beach Club at MGM Grand on May 6. DJ Mustard spins a Latin-inspired set at Tao Beach at The Venetian Resort on May 3. And over at Zouk Nightclub at Resorts World Las Vegas, Snoop Dogg takes on his DJ persona, DJ Snoopadelic, and spins a special set on May 7.
