As Hofbräuhaus Las Vegas celebrates 20 years this year, Betty Castaneda also celebrates two decades as an employee. As a server and supervisor, Castaneda has become a familiar face at the traditional German beer hall. “Hofbräuhaus is a lot of fun,” she says. “Not only that, but in all these years … I’ve made really good friends, like an extended family, built a great rapport with the owners—they’re such good people. Our locals know us by name. It is such a special place.”

What makes Hofbräuhaus even more special this time of year is Oktoberfest through Oct. 31. “Oktoberfest means tradition,” Castaneda says. “Not just the food that is cooked specially for Oktoberfest, there’s a specialty beer called Oktoberfest, the songs the bands play is only for Oktoberfest. It’s a really special time here and meaningful.”

Reflecting on her 20 years with Hofbräuhaus, Castaneda smiles and says, “I’ve learned so much about myself working here because I’ve seen so many outrageous, crazy things. It’s such a fun place to work. Anybody in the industry, you have to have a good attitude and smile and love what you do, and I genuinely love what I do. … By the time guests walk out the door, they’re saying they’re going to come back and see us. … You can have really great customer service, but it’s your dedication and attitude and personality to the service that will bring people back.” Prost to that!
